We need a full inspection and test of our electrical installation (Electrical Installation Condition Report)

An Electrical Installation Condition Report will include the results of a visual inspection and the results of testing all circuits in the property. This will give you and your insurance company more information about the condition of the installation and in particular any damage to hidden cables or joints. Generally the majority of commercial  buildings and those open to the public  must be inspected and tested  once every 5 years as minimum ( See inspection and testing section for more details of frequency) .A label on your distribution board should tell you when this was last done and previous records should have been kept safely.

As a guide, the cost of an Electrical Installation Condition Report is usually £15 + VAT per circuit for inspections carried out Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, £20 + VAT per circuit for inspections carried out during a weekend and £22.50 + VAT per circuit for inspections carried out overnight.  To see how many circuits you have, add up the number of circuit breakers in your distribution boards.  However, as commercial installations vary considerably we will need to carry out a survey in order to provide an accurate quotation.

In addition, the scope and/or limitations imposed on the inspection and testing must be agreed before any work is carried out.  You may need to check with your insurance company to confirm their requirements in terms of the percentage of the installation that must be checked.  Please be aware of companies offering very cheap rates for inspection and testing, this will usually be for a reason and often means that only a small percentage of your system will be checked.  This may not be enough to satisfy your insurance company.

We need our portable appliances testing (PAT)

Portable appliance testing (PAT) involves the testing of electrical equipment used on your premises that connect to the mains supply with a removable plug.  It covers items from mobile phone chargers to computer servers – if it plugs in, we can test it for you.  Electrical appliances are tested using specific testing equipment and various tests are performed on each appliance in turn. Every appliance is labelled with an electrical test identifier and on conclusion of each site a detailed report is generated itemising the tests performed on each appliance by identifier and location.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is charged as follows:

No of appliances to be tested: Prices (excluding VAT):
For less than 30 appliances Price Negotiable
31-60 appliances Minimum site charge of £110 applies
61-599 appliances £1.05 per appliance
600-999 appliances £0.98 per appliance
1000+ appliances £0.95 per appliance
110V equipment £3.65 per appliance
3-phase/415V equipment £3.45 per appliance
